Our HopeStreet - Wallsend centre is the first point of contact for people who are experiencing disadvantage.

With very few places to turn to, we provide hope to people who are isolated or living on the margins.

We promote a community that is open to anyone who is struggling, to have their immediate needs met, whether that is a nutritious meal, the chance to wash clothing and the opportunity to make friends. These are simple things many of us take for granted, but these things have the power to give hope to those who feel they have been forgotten.

Disadvantage is complex, so our team goes beyond the immediate needs of a person to know more about their story and to provide services and assistance that will meet their needs no matter where they are at in life.

What we do

Community Space

The Community Centre plays an integral role in the Newcastle community as safe and welcoming place for homeless persons and people living on the margins.

The Centre provides a place where some of the most lonely and vulnerable people in our community are supported to address key issues, such as personal health including support for domestic and family violence, drug and alcohol dependence, mental health and housing needs. Responding with compassion, practical care and support, the service assists clients in developing skills to build independence and resilience.

Food Support

HopeStreet welcomes many people living with disadvantage through its doors every day, to enjoy nutritious, wholesome sit-down meals.

Most often, they are homeless and the meal we provide might be the only meal they eat that day. It’s not just about the meal though; HopeStreet is a safe and welcoming place where positive friendships are built and the sense of community is strong..  Food support extends beyond sit down meals at HopeStreet; crisis food packs are also provided often to individuals and families who lack the basic items to make a meal.

Low Cost Groceries

Food affordability is a significant issue experienced by families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet.

Access to low-cost and nutritious groceries means that people can stock their cupboards, and redirect much needed funds to other living costs such as household bills. HopeStreet’s low cost groceries are sourced from our local food partners, and include everything from fresh bread, to cereal, fruit and vegetables and cleaning products. At HopeStreet, we believe that everyone has the right to access food that is affordable and nutritious.

No Interest Loans

Giving individuals and families access to safe and affordable loans

Our No Interest Loans are absolutely free of interest, fees, charges or penalties. They’re about giving individuals and families access to safe and affordable loans for everyday items such as white goods, car repairs, school uniforms, computers and medical bills.

People with poor credit history, or a string of bad debt and no spare cash, really struggle to find the funds for these every day or emergency costs, which can lead to substantial hardship. This basic financial support means that individuals and families are able to look towards their future, with a loan that empowers them, rather than adding to the cycle of debt.
