Walking
tours
Homelessness (1hr)
This interactive walking tour brings students face to face with life on the edge in the city (Woolloomooloo), and introduces the community development approach. As well as learning about the lives of some of Sydney’s rough-sleepers, students will discuss common attitudes towards the homeless and discuss ways individuals, organisations and governments might be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
cost: $100 for 15 students (maximum 2 groups at a time)
Life on the Edge (2hr)
This interactive walking tour brings students face to face with life on the edge in the inner city (Woolloomooloo, Darlinghurst, King’s Cross), and introduces the community development approach. As well as homelessness, this tour explores other issues that currently affect inner city life, including gambling and drug addiction, gentrification, mental illness, sex work, long-term unemployment and poverty. Like its 1hr counterpart, the tour provokes and facilitates discussion about our attitudes towards the marginalised, and challenges participants to explore ways individuals, organisations and governments might be agents for positive change.
cost: $150 for 15 students (maximum 2 groups at a time)
note: In order to ensure HopeStreet’s education programs have a low impact on our neighbourhood, walking tours have a maximum capacity of around 30 students.
