Female Staff Wanted

HopeStreet, Urban Compassion is looking for Outreach and Support Workers for two positions; one being 3 days per week which includes Open House relationship-building, afternoon appointments and some networking and fortnightly Street Outreach on Tuesday nights from 7pm –11pm. We look for occasional Friday morning attendance at HopeStreet and WS staff meetings in proportion to the person’s overall hours. The one day per week role is similar but expects much less time input. It may include one shift on Night Outreach per month. The role of Outreach and Support worker is integral to a project called The Women’s Space, which works with marginalised female sex workers.

HopeStreet is looking for women with welfare or other training or equivalent life experience, who are compassionate and balanced and able to develop relationships with women in the sex industry through outreach, visitation and agency networking.  They must be non judgmental and able to offer non-anxious presence. They should understand and be committed to a team approach. They need to be able to concentrate on building accepting relationships. They offer respect and seek to journey alongside rather than feel they are there to offer expertise or moral advice. At the same time they learn the Strengths Approach and engage in informal case work if desired. They are willing to do the menial tasks associated with running a small Terrace open house with an atmosphere of home. They have some familiarity with some of the issues sexworkers face such as the legacies of sexual and other abuse, drug abuse and mental health issues.

Outreach and Support Worker x Two – Women’s Space for Sex workers - HOPESTREET - Urban Compassion.  The position is offering positive life change to sex workers through an open house drop-in centre, outreach on the street and supportive appointments at rehabs, prisons, medical appointments, house moves etc

HopeStreet seeks to empower the people of the inner city, especially the most marginalised, through community programs, Christian spiritual communities and urban education.  HopeStreet is looking for compassionate and balanced people who are motivated by HopeStreet's mission of empowering marginalised people toward wholeness in all of life and hope for eternity.

The female outreach and support workers connect with and develop relationships with women working in the sex and associated industries.  They are involved with a coordinator and the present outreach and support worker in staffing the ‘open house’ drop-in centre, outreach on the streets, visitation and agency networking. They always work in pairs. Such workers are compassionate towards people on the margins and have the ability to deal with people in chaos, to deal with conflict and sometimes violence. They are able to encourage positive life change. Some knowledge of the impacts of drugs and mental illness is important. Staff should have a driver’s licence and appropriate transport to get home after night outreach shifts. For 3 of the hours of Night Outreach they take off an equivalent number of hours during the following week to compensate for the late hours of working.
